United Parcel service, Federal Express and the U.S. Postal Service are among the hundreds of delivery services using retreads on their fleets of delivery vehicles. All types of tires, including steel belted radials, are routinely retreaded.
Retreads deliver the same mileage as (sometimes even better than) comparable new tires, at a far lower cost per mile. This translates into savings for the consumer by helping to reduce operating expenses for the companies using retreads.
Retreaded tires accomplish all this without sacrificing safety or handling and performance characteristics. According to a spokesman for the retread industry, it is virtually impossible for a driver to tell the difference between a retread and a new tire.
"The only difference users will notice will be in their wallets. Retreads usually cost significantly less than comparable new tires", said Harvey Brodsky, Managing Director of the Tire Retread Information Bureau. "Using retreads allows motorists to do a good turn for the environment. Retreads are environmentally friendlier than new tires. Since tires are largely made of petroleum based chemicals, every retread helps save oil for all of us".
"Retreads save North American hundreds of millions of gallons of oil every year and also help reduce our horrendous scrap tire problem. Every tire that is retreaded is one less tire for the scrap pile.", Brodsky added.
