INSANE FUEL PRICES? ENERGY SHORTAGES AND BLACKOUTS? Retreads Never Looked Better Independent truckers and fleet managers are faced with more uncertainty than they have seen in years. Fuel prices continue to climb and energy shortages and blackouts are becoming a way of life for far too many businesses throughout the U.S. But, the picture doesn’t have to be all bleak. Relief is on the way for those truckers and fleet managers who switch to retreads as a safe, economical and environmentally friendly alternative to higher priced new tires. Today’s retreads offer mileage comparable - and sometimes even greater - to new tires at a far lower cost. Since most truck tires are designed to have multiple lives, retreads really outperform new tires hands down when life cycle costing is taken into account. The technology involved in retreading a modern truck tire has never been better. With advanced non-destructive testing equipment, retreaders are able to identify those tires that are suitable for a second, and sometimes even a third, life. "Thanks to the many advances in inspection technology and rubber chemistry, plus new innovative computer generated tread designs, our industry is able to routinely retread a tire that will perform exactly like a much higher priced new tire," said Harvey Brodsky, Managing Director of the Tire Retread Information Bureau. "The go-go 90’s are behind us. Anyone in business knows it isn’t easy to make a profit these days, especially with fuel prices on the rise and the uncertainty of whether we will even have enough energy from day-to-day. Retreads offer a very sensible way to keep tires from becoming a budget buster for a trucker or fleet trying to stay profitable," Brodsky added. TRIB also offers free Tire Maintenance Seminars to public and private sector fleets and trucking associations. The seminars are conducted at the location of the fleets or associations and are entirely non-commercial. There is no charge for the seminars.
