RUBBER ON THE ROAD - Issues & Answers

Inaccurate Articles About Retreaded Tires and Rubber on the Road Do Great Harm to Retread Industry

A recent article in" The Driver's Report" newsletter advised their readers to:

"Watch out for Recaps!

If you are driving with recaps or retreads on your vehicle, be especially alert. The added heat of summer days can cause the bonding to let go. When that happens, tread separates from the body of the tire. With the tread gone, the tire will blow. In addition, the pieces of flying tread can damage air lines or electric cables and may cause a traffic hazard."

"The statement in "The Driver's Report" about retreaded tires and rubber on the road are completely inaccurate and do great harm to our industry", said Harvey Brodsky, Managing Director of TRIB, the Tire Retread Information Bureau, an industry association.

"We consider this kind of reporting to be irresponsible and wholly without merit. Anyone familiar with the problem of rubber on the road knows that it is not caused by retreaded tires."
